Description: The Direct Project is an open-government initiative sponsored by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The ONC Direct Reference Implementation is a unique collection of Java libraries that provide secure and scalable standards to send authenticated and encrypted health information directly to recipients via the Internet. This software is intended to create a solid, open source reference implementation and associated libraries implementing the Direct Project specifications. These libraries are managed by a nationwide healthcare consortium that spans both Government and Private industry.

This technology uses Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server to retrieve and pass data between a Domain Name System (DNS) Server and a Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) Endpoint. This technology also provides a database backed auditing implementation.
