Description: The TIPS for Windows software manages the graphical user interface (GUI) and day-to-day operation of the kiosk, shared workstation, or any compatible interactive display device. The technology provides user-friendly access to all multimedia content via its secure browser interface. The application has an open Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) / Extensible Markup Language (XML)-based architecture providing seamless Internet/Intranet integration. The technology also provides enhanced functionality for the user to securely browse both local and web-based content.

There are three editions of TIPS for Windows: TIPS Basic, TIPS Pro, and TIPS Pro Plus. TIPS Basic contains all of the base functionality of this software. TIPS Pro includes additional support for peripherals and support for multiple languages. TIPS Pro Plus includes a number of additional features including remote monitoring, content management, and usage data collection functionalities that require TIPS Cloud or TIPS Server support. The scope of this entry covers all three editions.

This technology does not make use of a database. Analytical and reporting information such as program uptime and usage summaries are automatically emailed to administrators. All data accessed during a user session is instantly deleted after a user logs out of the kiosk that is using this software.

The TRM decisions in this entry only apply to technologies and versions owned, operated, managed, patched, and version-controlled by VA. This includes technologies deployed as software installations on VMs within VA-controlled cloud environments (e.g. VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)). Cloud services provided by the VAEC, which are listed in the VAEC Service Catalog, and those controlled and managed by an external Cloud Service Provider (i.e. SaaS) are not in the purview of the TRM. For more information on the use of cloud services and cloud-based products within VA, including VA private clouds, please see the Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office (ECSO) Portal at: https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/sites/OITECSO
