Description: Business Intelligence (BI) Developer Extensions is an open source plugin for Microsoft Visual Studio used to extend and enhance business intelligence development functionality of Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server. Business Intelligence (BI) Developer Extensions improves the development environment for integration, analysis and reporting services.

This software is available as a different self-extracting installer (with the same version number) depending on the versions of SQL Server and Visual Studio that are being used. The scope of this entry is for the available installers designed to be used with the TRM-approved versions of SQL Server and Visual Studio. Additionally, this entry covers Version 2.0.x of BIDS Helper, which is designed for SQL Server 2016 and Visual Studio 2015, and can be installed directly from the Visual Studio Gallery; a separate self-extracting installer is not available for this version.

This project was formerly known as BIDS Helper and was housed on Microsoft`s CodePlex site. In 2017, the product was renamed and moved to GitHub.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
