Description: Job Access With Speech (JAWS) is a software speech synthesizer, which uses the computer sound card to read aloud information from the screen for vision-impaired individuals. JAWS also outputs to refreshable Braille displays which provides braille support of any screen as a supplement or alternative to speech. This software is designed to improve speed, comprehension and efficiency of vision-impaired readers.

The application supports the use of an optional vendor supplied dongle for application portability. A Universal Serial Bus (USB) version of the application can also be used to provide much of the same functionality as the dongle. The scope of this review is the desktop JAWS application only.
