Description: VA Provider Desktop (VAPD) is document management software. This software may be configured to capture data from various medical documentation such as patient encounter forms. This software provides a framework that delivers Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA)-integrated, browser-based, software to VA providers that may be used to facilitate and improve documentation, coding, and problem list management.

A Cache database is used to connect the VAPD application Server to a VistA data server configured through the Cache Enterprise Cache Protocol (ECP) Networking to permit using the VistA data server regardless of the operating system on which it is running. The system will store data in VistA via a VAPD Server, using Cache ECP Networking, and encrypt data in transit between the VAPD Server and the browser using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) if SSL is enabled.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
