Description: CapSure Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) is a store-and-forward, collaboration software that is used to generate Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) compliant files containing an image and patient and/or study information. CapSure handles the process of acquiring, sharing, storing, and forwarding medical images and can receive details of a patient electronically via a modality worklist query. The software also allows users to forward or share images from medical video cameras in real-time which can then be viewed, manipulated, and annotated with drawing capabilities.

DICOM payloads are created and encrypted using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-256 encryption algorithm and then stored on the local disk. These payloads are then decrypted and sent to the VistA Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) using DICOM Transport Layer Security (TLS) communication, if available. Once sent, the payload files are deleted from the local disk. The vendor asserts that CapSure VistA does not utilize a database.
