Description: M Data Extractor (MDE) performs data migration from File Manager-based M and Cache`s hierarchical format to structured query language (SQL) databases while transforming the hierarchical data relationships within File Manager-based M and Cache to equivalent relationally-based linkages. This technology converts File Manager data types to standard SQL data types. Data is filtered so only the desired data is extracted. The extractions are placed into a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) for use by technologies such as data warehouse/mart, clinical software applications, data analysis tools, and ad hoc reporting.

MDE extracts data from Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) and Composite Health Care System (CHCS) 1 and automatically moves the data across the network to databases supporting the Web, data warehouse/marts, or local applications. This technology deposits the extracted data ready-for-use in the target database. This technology extends the life and value of VistA and CHCS 1 by delivering data to external software applications or databases that help a facility achieve clinical, managerial, operational, or financial objectives.

This technology is certified for Oracle Database and Microsoft Structure Query Language (SQL) Server databases.
