Description: Document Storage Systems (DSS) Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB) is a web-based insurance card scanning and Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) Buffer File update management system designed to enhance the insurance data collection and verification processes for Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. ICB is integrated with several VistA components such as the Appointment Scheduling and the Patient`s Insurance File. ICB provides an electronic list of Veterans with scheduled appointments whose insurance needs to be verified. The `Patient Update` List is used by check-in and registration clerks to scan insurance cards for those identified. Scanned images are stored and are immediately accessible to verification clerks via the `Insurance Buffer Entries` list. Data from the image can be compared with existing insurance data within VistA. This technology is hosted in the Microsoft Azure Government (MAG) Cloud.

Please note that there is no specific product page for this technology and thus the vendor webpage is used in its place.

This technology utilizes the VistA system database to store data.

VistA is the main system of record. Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server database is used to store image data `pointers` that tell the ICB application where patient insurance card images are stored on the VA`s media folder. All databases, images, and patient records are stored within the VA`s network.

The TRM decisions in this entry only apply to technologies and versions owned, operated, managed, patched, and version-controlled by VA.
