Description: ClearCanvas Workstation is a standalone Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) viewer application. This technology includes diagnostic workstation features for image review and utility. Base features of ClearCanvas Workstation include study anonymization, Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) overlay and image transfer support, Multiplanar Reconstruction (MPR), and other basic image viewer functionalities.

ClearCanvas Workstation is available in both a Personal edition and Clinical edition. The Personal edition includes the base features of an image viewer and is user customizable to fit individual needs, while the Clinical edition adds additional features intended for use in a clinical setting. The scope of this entry is for both editions.

Data generated by this technology may be saved to a DICOM database. This technology may also write information to Compact Discs (CDs) and Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs) or save data to the user`s local drive.

On May 6, 2020, Synaptive Medical notified ClearCanvas customers that all commercial ClearCanvas products that are medical devices will reach end-of-life (EOL) in 2020. The exact EOL date will depend on the jurisdiction in which the product is used.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
