Description: The AudioRECALLREMINDER software module is an automated outbound telephony application that calls patients to inform them of the need to schedule an appointment with a clinic or healthcare provider by using the Private Branch Exchange (PBX) system to place the calls. Call plans are set up within the AudioCARE system that determines when the list of upcoming recall reminders should be retrieved and the window for when calls should be placed.

All Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI), including patient names and their contact information and the clinic or provider contact information, are retrieved from Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA). Further, information is written to the Cache database in order to create reports that include details regarding phone calls that detail which calls were placed, whom the calls were made to, and the call results.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
