Description: iCalendar is a standard computer file format created by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Calendaring and Scheduling Working Group that allows Personal Information Manager software to share and exchange calendar entries.

The iCalendar format is designed to transmit calendar-based data, but it does not describe what to do with that data. It is up to the receiving software to figure out how that data should be handled. iCalendar entries are stored in files that are plain text with the extension .ics or .ifb and are designed to be independent of the transport protocol.

iCalendar allows Internet users to send meeting requests and tasks to other Internet users, via email, or sharing files with an extension of .ics. Recipients of the iCalendar data file (with supporting software, such as an email client or calendar application) can respond to the sender easily or counter-propose another meeting date/time.
