Description: CUSpider is an open-source forensic file scanning utility that scans individual computers for the presence of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This software searches for instances of unencrypted PII and assists the user in taking the appropriate actions to secure sensitive data. While scanning, CUSpider will create a list of files which appear to contain PII and allow the user to remediate, redact, or securely delete the information.

CUSpider does not utilize a database. This technology automatically creates encrypted files called State Files during each scan that contain details as to which files have been searched and which files contain sensitive data. These files are saved the user`s local drive. The vendor recommends that these files be treated with the same care as any other sensitive file and should be securely deleted after every scan and remediation session.
