Description: The Director Service is a piece of software that is installed at a hospital by a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) or Information Technology (IT) Administrator that allows for the image transmission from a site’s PACS into Medidata Imaging. The Director Service should be installed on any computer or virtual machine (VM) that will not lose power or internet and meets basic system specification requirements. It has no discernable user interface, but It acts as a Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) gateway that accepts images from a hospital’s PACS and securely delivers them to the Medidata platform. One Director can be used to send images to any vendor that uses the Medidata commercial instance of the imaging platform. It eliminates the need for the manual upload of imaging from a web interface. Hospital users who need to send images to vendors who use our platform will select an established DICOM destination in their PACS. The destination is mapped to the specific initiative and site within that initiative. When received, the Medidata platform creates a case in the initiative and makes that case available to sponsor resources for pre-surgical planning or other purposes.

Please note that there is no specific product page for this technology and thus the vendor webpage is used in its place.

This technology uses its own proprietary database to store data. The Director is an add-on for the Medidata`s Connected Patient Platform (CPP) solution, a web-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) that is hosted by Amazon Web Service (AWS). There are no on-premise solutions available.

The TRM decisions in this entry only apply to technologies and versions owned, operated, managed, patched, and version-controlled by VA. This includes technologies deployed as software installations on VMs within VA-controlled cloud environments (e.g. VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)). Cloud services provided by the VAEC, which are listed in the VAEC Service Catalog, and those controlled and managed by an external Cloud Service Provider (i.e. SaaS) are not in the purview of the TRM. For more information on the use of cloud services and cloud-based products within VA, including VA private clouds, please see the Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office (ECSO) Portal at:
