Description: The AudioRxInfo module is a patient-driven, prescription-specific source of medication education information that is accessible via telephone or the internet. A patient can call into the AudioCARE system, enter a unique identification number, and can choose the menu option that includes medication information. Once the patient enters the prescription number and AudioRxINFO verifies the medication is linked to the patient health record in the pharmacy system, the patient is able to hear whatever piece of information they would need, and can be transferred to speak to a pharmacist directly for additional help if the call is placed during work hours.

All Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) are retrieved from Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), and are used to identify and validate the patient calling and the prescription number that is entered, and to retrieve the National Drug Code (NDC) associated with the medication. Further, information is written to the Cache database or Intuitive Reliable Interoperative Scalable (IRIS) for Health in order to create reports that include details regarding phone calls that were placed and information relayed about specific medication.
