Description: Knowledge Based_Structured Query Language (KB_SQL) is a data access and reporting solution for Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programming System (MUMPS), also known as M, databases. KB_SQL software functions as a simple report writer, a database management system, and an application development platform. Users can utilize KB_SQL via terminal screen or the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) application to retrieve valuable information from their M databases and present it as a formatted report. KB_SQL integrates SQL and M, two American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard languages. SQL provides a standard for database access and communication between systems, whereas M provides a language for processing large amounts of data.

The KB_SQL Server layers on top of M Technology (MUMPS) server environments and accesses and extracts data from MUMPS. This data is delivered to third-party reporting applications such as SAP Crystal Reports and BusinessObjects to produce customized reports. Communication drivers are provided for Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), ActiveX Data Objects.NET (ADO.NET), and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). Additionally, the KB_SQL Server stores metadata about the type, location, and references for data elements in the Data Dictionary database that resides on the Server. There are also two terminal applications (SQL Editor and EZQ Editor) that can write, edit, and store report queries within the KB_SQL Server Engine.
