Ragan Communications and PR Daily announced the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information and Technology’s (OIT) IT Strategic Communication (ITSC) program as its 2021 Team of the Year. Distinguished for publishing clear, timely, and service-oriented information during the pandemic, ITSC was recognized for excellence in the areas of communication strategy, tactics, and execution. Specifically, ITSC was celebrated for its ability to coordinate and execute OIT’s COVID-19 messaging for:

  • 390,000+ VA staff related to IT support in delivery of care and services to over 9 million Veterans,
  • 1,200+ VA health care facilities in support of their unique health care technology needs,
  • 16,000+ OIT team members for operational and tactical guidance, resources, or training, and
  • Congressional oversight bodies to ensure accountability and transparency of ongoing IT support or technology changes.

Communication Director Reginald Humphries said, “Ragan Communications and PR Daily’s Team of the Year honors reflect the trust VA’s stakeholders have in the Department’s IT Strategic Communication program, as we strive to provide accessible, accurate, and relevant information that places our customers first.” As with the healthcare industry at large, “Our response to COVID-19 will remain a key priority for VA in 2022, and OIT will continue to craft accessible communication that highlights newly deployed technologies and changes to IT policy that enhance the customer experience for Veterans and our business partners across VA,” stated Mr. Humphries.

Representing another proud achievement for ITSC, the Team of Year accomplishment marks a new milestone on a 12-month journey in which the program received a Gold Hermes Creative Award for OIT’s special feature on Rapid Solutions for VA’s COVID-19 Response, and Gold MarCom Award for OIT’s To Win 2021 Midyear Review video. Understanding the challenges and constraints that await in 2022, ITSC is committed to providing a consistent communication experience in the upcoming year and beyond.
