Each year, Scoop News Group honors public sector innovators who leverage technology to transform the public sector. During the 10th annual FedScoop 50 Awards, three Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) executives were acknowledged for their contributions as “brilliant leaders, innovative decision-makers and tireless workers dedicated to public service and making the Federal government more efficient and effective through the use of technology.” VA officials received awards in the following FedScoop 50 categories:

Cybersecurity Leader of the Year

Mr. Paul Cunningham, Chief Information Security Officer for leading cybersecurity innovation at VA and within the Federal community.

Federal Leadership

Mr. Kshmendra Paul, Chief Data Officer for implementing new strategies and programs to help make the Department more agile, while creating greater efficiencies.

Technology Champion of the Year

Mr. Charles Worthington, Chief Technology Officer for delivering innovative technology solutions that encourage the Department to think outside of the box.

“The past year saw a whirlwind of digital transformation initiatives across VA and an increased focused on cybersecurity with targeted cyber-attacks becoming more common; Mr. Paul and Mr. Worthington were at the front of delivering modern, digital technologies to better serve the Veteran community, while Mr. Cunningham continued to evolve the Department’s cybersecurity posture to safeguard Veteran data and information,” said VA’s Acting Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology and Chief Information Officer, Dr. Neil Evans. “Each of these individuals exemplify VA’s core values and the 2021 FedScoop 50 Award highlights their forward-leaning leadership that drives the Department’s relentless focus on an exceptional Veteran experience.”
