Description: This standard establishes the common architecture and baseline configuration for WAN Acceleration installed on all VA data networks. This baseline configuration standard considers industry best practices, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) recommendations, VA business and technical requirements and other federal agencies security guidelines (i.e. DoD STIGs). These recommendations are reconciled by a group of VA subject matter experts and where applicable to VA requirements are represented in this baseline configuration standard. Any changes required to meet local business requirements shall be communicated to the WAN Acceleration Technical Working Group (OIT ITOPS WAN Acceleration) for consideration of inclusion in a future version of the standard. Deviations from this standard except as described above may require National Change Control Board approval and a Plan of Action & Milestone (POA&M) for the VA Directive 6500 Baseline Configuration (P1) Security Control (CM-2).

Version 2.18 is the most current version of this standard and was released May 23, 2019.

Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations.
