Description: The Bio-Rad Image Lab Software is an image acquisition and analysis application used in a laboratory environment to analyze gel electrophoresis or blot features, capture image data, and generate result reports. This product generates two types of files: Protocol files, which describe the parameters for imaging and analyzing the gel images; and image files, which run according to a protocol file, which contain the imaged gel, annotations, and analysis performed on the gel.

There are three editions of this product: Standard Image Lab Software, Security Image Lab Software, and the Image Lab Touch Software. Each edition is used for different ChemiDoc Imaging Systems that are available from the vendor. Additionally, Security Image Lab Software allows users to create lab user groups, roles, and descriptions. The scope of this entry is for all editions of this software.

Each user can create ones own account where all images are stored. Images that are acquired are automatically saved to the local hard drive or network file server and can be exported in various file formats via Universal Serial Bus (USB) drive, networked hard drive, or attached Personal Computer (PC) shared folder. Additionally, Image Lab can be configured to export image files and volume tables as Comma-Separated Values (CSV) files so one can be opened in a database application. However, an existing database implementation is not required.
