Description: eVideon Interactive Patient Care Television System is a web-enabled, end-to-end Internet Protocol (IP) based TV system (IPTV) and is custom-made for the hospital and personalized to the patient through tight integration with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. This technology engages patients, visitors, and staff with personalized access to cable or satellite High Definition Television (HDTV), on-demand patient education and movies, interactive communications, signage, and hospital services.

This technology uses an Oracle Database. It stores information required for the system to run such as location information, metadata about available media (i.e. TV Channels, movie titles), eVideon devices and their configurations, historical information about media viewed, and other information necessary to run eVideon.

Additionally, eVideon communicates with the applicable Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) server so that patient education media can be assigned to each patient from Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). eVideon documents the patient`s media history into the patient`s medical record so hospital staff can view it in CPRS. Also, the eVideon system receives Personally Identifiable Information (PII) from an Admit, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) feed and communicates directly with VistA for data exchange.

In order to maintain proper records within VistA, this technology stores basic PII received from ADT messages within the database. The specific information that is stored includes Patient Name (First, Last, Middle), Patient Birth Date, Patient Admission Date, Patient Discharge Date, Patient Identifier (matches Patient ID in VistA), Patient Room/Bed Number, and Patient Room Phone Number (if provided). This data can be encrypted using Oracle table level encryption. The servers on which this data is stored are internal to each VA site, are not accessible from any external source, and reside on a separate network segment within a given facility. Data is purged on a scheduled basis which is determined by the local site`s needs and preferences.

Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
Section 508 Information: This technology has not been assessed by the Section 508 Office. The Implementer of this technology has the responsibility to ensure the version deployed is 508-compliant.
