Description: MiPACS Dental Enterprise Viewer is a software application that allows clinicians to capture images from most devices currently on the market. This includes seamless integration with sensors, phosphor plate scanners, intraoral cameras, Computed Tomography (CT) devices, digital panoramic devices, image scanners, and video and Digital Video (DV) sources.

This technology can be configured with Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server or versions Office 14.0/2010 and Office 16.0/20106 of Microsoft Access database to store data. The Access database is used as a true local database and is physically stored on each client. The SQL Server database is used as a shared Viewer database that is available to all clients or specific groups of clients within the network. The Viewer database is a type of information cache. It functions as an image repository until images are pushed to the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) server and permanently saved. The Viewer database also stores common information and configuration settings needed for each client. Specifically, the viewer license, DICOM server information, and security settings. The Viewer database can also be configured to function as a local cache, holding the saved images locally to increase response times across limited Wide Area Network (WAN) connections.

This entry covers the Desktop Edition of this technology and not any mobile versions. Please note that the implementation of mobile technology applications that operate on Mobile Operating Systems must be reviewed and approved by the Mobile Technology and Endpoint Security Engineering Team: http://vaww.eie.va.gov/SysDesign/CS/MT/default.aspx
