Description: Environmental Health and Safety Assistant (EH&S Assistant) is an environmental management database technology that provides inventory and training programs with various compliance features. EH&S Assistant allows users to track data, training, equipment, permit records, laboratory reporting, facility audits, etc., as it relates to safety guidelines. EH&S Assistant organizes a lab`s chemical and biological inventory and can create reports based on a lab`s current status. Additionally, this technology can facilitate tasks, including but not limited to: registering a laboratory or chemical storage space, reviewing projects, generating door signs, assessing laboratory hazards, requesting a waste pick-up, and responding to inspections.

Data collected by this software is stored in a My Structured Query Language (MySQL) database and accessed by the end user via a web application.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
