Description: ExtendSim is a simulation software that is used to construct logical representations of a problem, situation, or process by mathematically modeling it on a computer. This technology allows varying assumptions in the dynamic model to predict the effect of changes on existing systems or performance behavior of potential new systems to arrive at an optimum solution.

There are three editions/packages for this technology: Continuous Process (CP), Advanced Technology (AT), and Suite. The CP package is for continuous process modeling. The AT package is for continuous, discrete event and discrete rate modeling. The Suite package adds three-dimensional (3D) animation to the AT package. This entry covers all editions/packages has they have the same core set of capabilities.

This technology has a proprietary internal relational database which is useful for storing and managing data. This technology can store data in the internal database or in external data repositories.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
