Description: The IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) provides inventory controls of Processor Value Units (PVU) based software deployed within Full Capacity or Virtualization (Sub-) Capacity environments, and measures the PVU licenses required by the particular licensed software product. A Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure used to differentiate licensing of middleware based on distributed processor technology.

IBM continues to define a processor for purposes of PVU-based licensing to be each processor core on a chip. Each software program has a specific price per PVU. Installation and using ILMT is a contractually mandatory requirement for IBM clients licensed for IBM sub-capacity (also called virtualization capacity) products. Customers have 90 days from first eligible Virtualization (Sub)-capacity product deployment to install and begin using ILMT for supported virtualization technologies.
