Description: International Business Machines (IBM) Business Monitor, previously the WebSphere Business Monitor, is an activity monitoring platform. This technology provides dashboards, notifications, and alerts to provide near real-time visibility into business operations, transactions, and processes. IBM Business Monitor includes functionalities for defining and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as well as functionalities for visualizing business transactions across systems. Additionally, this technology includes collaboration features for delivering notifications and alerts and determining who can see what specific types of information and level of detail.

This technology requires two databases, one for the IBM Business Monitor configuration and one for the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence content store. By default, both databases reside on the same server. Upon installation, users have the option to install and configure a DB2 database for the storage of data. If users do not choose to configure this database, they may instead utilize an existing database server installation for the storage of data. Only TRM approved databases may be configured for use.

Users may view IBM Business Monitor data via mobile devices by navigating to the specific Uniform Resource Locator (URL) created for viewing dashboards on mobile devices.

Note: At the time of writing, versions 7.5, 8.0, and 8.0.1 of this technology are the only releases supported by IBM`s Z/OS operating system.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
