Description: DicomPush is a software technology that converts analog images to digital images. Specifically designed to be used in a healthcare setting, this software allows the conversion of any non-Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) imaging modality to the DICOM digital standard. Images can be acquired from a variety of sources including film and document scanners, micro and macro images, ultrasound, surgery, and endoscopy. Once an image has been acquired, it is automatically sent to the institution`s Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

This technology does not utilize a database, as images generated by this technology are either saved to the user`s local drive or exported to a facility`s existing PACS system.

Note: There is no longer a dedicated website for this technology.
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
Section 508 Information: This technology qualifies for a legally-defined Exception (Fundamental Alteration) as determined by the Section 508 Office and will not need a 508 assessment prior to being available in the TRM.
