Description: WinDVD is a commercial video player and music player software for Microsoft Windows. WinDVD enables the viewing of digital versatile disc (DVD)-Video movies on a user`s Personal Computer (PC). The player can also be used to play videos and audio/music files in other formats encoded with different codecs, to include DivX, Xvid, Windows Media Video (WMV) and Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer III (MP3) and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio.

There are two editions of this technology: Standard and Pro. This assessment covers both editions. However, VA has chosen to provide only the standard edition for enterprise deployment so only the standard edition is approved for use. Only the enterprise deployment package for the standard edition should be used to install this software after licensing availability has been verified.

The purchasing entity and/or officer must buy the WinDVD 12 Standard license through an authorized government reseller. The government specific part number to request for WinDVD 12 Standard is LCWD12MLGOV
Technology/Standard Usage Requirements: Users must ensure their use of this technology/standard is consistent with VA policies and standards, including, but not limited to, VA Handbooks 6102 and 6500; VA Directives 6004, 6513, and 6517; and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards, including Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). Users must ensure sensitive data is properly protected in compliance with all VA regulations. Prior to use of this technology, users should check with their supervisor, Information Security Officer (ISO), Facility Chief Information Officer (CIO), or local Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) representative to ensure that all actions are consistent with current VA policies and procedures prior to implementation.
