Description: ArcGIS for Desktop is a Geographic Information System (GIS) providing the capability to create and manage GIS services and editing of spatial data. It provides utilities for the creation of map and spatial data used in GIS, including the ability of editing geodatabase files and data, multiuser geodatabase editing, versioning, data editing and vectorization, vector data editing, managing coverages, coordinate geometry (COGO), and editing geometric networks.

ArcGIS comes in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS for Desktop, this entry only includes the Desktop edition of this technology. As of January 2021, the initial release of ArcGIS Pro 1.x licensing was fully dependent on the ArcGIS Desktop license model. However, the vendor continues the process of transitioning from ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Pro. The hardware requirements, product lifecycles, and licensing for both applications do not align and should not be listed in TRM as one application. ArcGIS Pro is the next generation desktop GIS application and will be listed as a separate TRM Entry.
