Description: AutonoME communication system allows spinal cord injury patients to control their television, bed, and nurse calls. No patient information is stored or accessed in this system. This technology features a microphone so it can be controlled with vocal commands, and a touch screen capable of responding to touch commands. It features a Sip and Puff mode, which utilizes the sip and puff switch that operates using a straw which allows users to activate the Environmental Control Units (ECU) / Speech Generating Devices (SGD) switch by sipping and puffing to move across and down the screen. With eye tracking, the technology can also be controlled via commands that can be activated by the user’s eyes. A camera tracks the pupils to move the cursor up, down, left and right. Lastly, it also features head tracking, which works much like Eye Gaze, tracking the movements of the user’s head to control the curser.

This technology does not utilize a database to store data.

This technology is available in three editions, AutonoME Hospital, AutonoME Residential, and AutonoMEgo. This entry covers all three editions.

Note: This evaluation covers only the software associated with the hardware, and not the hardware itself.
