Description: Uniface is a development and deployment platform for enterprise applications that can run in a large range of runtime environments, including mainframe, Web, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Windows, Java Enterprise Edition (EE), and .NET. Uniface is a model-driven, Rapid Application Development (RAD) environment used to create mission-critical applications.

Uniface can be hosted on premises or in the cloud. This technology enables applications to connect to a wide variety of data sources, including relational databases, files, or directory servers. While Uniface does not manipulate data within the data source, the application the user is utilizing can.

Note: This technology was sold to Rocket Software by Uniface.

Uniface maintains a database (Uniface Repository) of its own metadata for the purposes of reuse. This technology accesses data from a variety of sources, such as Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) Server, My Structured Query Language (MySQL) Database, etc. By default, an SQLite database is installed and configured as the Repository on Windows. On Linux/UNIX systems, Uniface installs its default Repository as Sequential files. However, in both cases, the software can be configured to use another VA-supported database.

The TRM decisions in this entry only apply to technologies and versions owned, operated, managed, patched, and version-controlled by VA. This includes technologies deployed as software installations on VMs within VA-controlled cloud environments (e.g. VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC)). Cloud services provided by the VAEC, which are listed in the VAEC Service Catalog, and those controlled and managed by an external Cloud Service Provider (i.e. SaaS) are not in the purview of the TRM. For more information on the use of cloud services and cloud-based products within VA, including VA private clouds, please see the Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office (ECSO) Portal at: https://dvagov.sharepoint.com/sites/OITEPMOECSO
