Description: The TM-REMINDER software module informs patients of upcoming appointments by using a Short Message Service (SMS) aggregator and is an add-on to the AudioREMINDER system. TM-REMINDER locates future appointments through integration with the AudioCARE platform and compiles a list based upon user-defined criteria, filtering out clinics and patients that are not to receive texts. Patient text messages provide the date, time, and location of their upcoming appointment(s); if the patient has multiple appointments, the system will send a single text message for each appointment. The messages allow the recipient to respond whether they wish to confirm, cancel, or reschedule the appointment, and include necessary contact information to perform those actions.

The TM-REMINDER module integrates with the AudioCARE platform, which uses an InterSystems Enterprise Cache Protocol (ECP) to connect to the Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) to find all patients with appointments that meet the criteria necessary in order to be called. The information written to Cache database or Intuitive Reliable Interoperative Scalable (IRIS) for Health is needed in order to create reports which detail the message sent, whom they were made to, and the patient`s response to the appointment reminder message (i.e. Confirm, Cancel, and Reschedule). The text message is sent from the AudioCARE System to the Aggregator (MessageMedia) over a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection. The aggregator uses Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) to transmit all messages to the individual carriers.
